How do riser recliner chairs work? Riser recliner chairs (also known as rise and reclining chairs or electric recliner chairs) work by a rising and reclining action inside the chair which helps you to sit down and stand up with ease.
At The Recliner Factory, all of our riser recliners come equipped with a simple hand held control. This allows you to adjust your chair to a position that suits you best, from reclining to fully risen.
Most importantly, our lift and recline action is one of the best available. Some cheaper models often have a scissor action which means they have one weight-load point, making the recliner less stable. Our riser recliners spread weight evenly across a platform, ensuring optimum stability and maximising your comfort.
It’s all about your comfort…
Riser recliners offer many advantages over standard chairs.
The rising action allows you to raise your feet safely and easily, without putting too much pressure on your joints.
The reclining action allows you to get into the optimum position of comfort.
This can help alleviate pain from certain medical problems, especially if you are sat down for long periods of time, as you can easily adjust your position.
So, how do riser recliner chairs work?
Powered riser recliners work by lifting you to your feet with ease. The simple hand-held control on all of our recliners drives a near silent low-voltage motor that will adjust the chair to the position that suits you best, from reclining to fully risen.
Designed and built to make sitting and standing easy and effortless, your recliner chair will raise you to your feet at the touch of a button. Sitting down is just as easy, as the recliner takes the strain off your knees and hips:
Our electric riser chairs lift you effortlessly to your feet avoiding any strain on your arms, hips or legs – indispensable for the elderly or for those of you with limited mobility or a disability – and great for when you want to sit down too.
Made to your specific size requirements, your recliner will support you perfectly, ensuring optimum seat height, depth and width. Ergonomically designed and beautifully proportioned, its supreme comfort makes it the perfect armchair for now and the future.
Take the weight off your feet at the touch of a button – your chair will be sized to fit your legs correctly so you will always feel supported. This is the perfect position for relaxing when reading, resting or watching TV whilst ensuring optimum comfort.
This is the perfect position for that afternoon snooze or for enjoying a soothing massage from the optional built-in massage system. One touch of the control will lift you smoothly back up with no strain and no effort.
How To Sit And Stand in a Riser Recliner
Follow these simple steps to sit and stand in your riser recliner with ease.
When Sitting in a Riser Recliner:
- Stand against the riser recliner so you can feel the seat behind your knees
- Ensure that your weight is evenly distributed between your feet
- Press the controls to lower yourself down
- Once seated, you may need to stop and adjust your position on the seat.
- Whilst keeping your feet firmly on the floor, press the control on your handset to lift the recliner to a standing position
- Placing your hands on the armrests so they are in line with your hips, prepare yourself to stand
- When you are at a near standing position hold the arm rests and dismount
What if a Riser Recliner Stops Working?
Riser recliners don’t need to be serviced annually, but it is advisable to choose a company that can arrange for one of its own, specialist engineers to visit if you experience any problems.
In the unlikely event that you have any problems with your chair, you can call our customer care line and speak to one of our experienced technical advisors who will be able to help you with any simple issues over the phone.
If the problem is more serious, they will arrange for one of our in-house engineers to visit your home at a time and date suitable to you.
Ideal Chair Positions for your Posture
At The Recliner Factory, we understand that not everyone is the same size, shape, weight or height – so neither are our chairs!
The correct seat depth, height, width and foot rest position are all essential to your comfort:
If the depth of your recliner seat is correct, it should be deep enough to support the full length of the thighs.
Too deep and your bottom will slide forwards whilst in the chair.
Too shallow, your thighs won’t be supported and you’ll feel uncomfortable.
The height of your riser recliner can greatly influence how easy or difficult it is to get in and out of your chair.
Too high and your feet won’t properly touch the floor. This will leave you feeling unsupported whilst seated.
Too low and you will struggle to get in and out of the chair. It will put unnecessary pressure on your hips rather than your weight being evenly distributed.
The correct seat height can be worked out by measuring the distance from the floor to the crease at the back of your knees. Whilst sat down, your hips and knees should be at approximate right angles whilst your feet are flat on the floor.
Seat width of your riser recliner is also an important consideration.
Your recliner seat should be wide enough to allow you to sit in a comfortable position whilst reading or writing.
It should also be narrow enough to provide support to your pelvis to prevent you from learning to one side.
You should also be able to reach the arm rests easily and comfortably.
The soles of your feet should sit flat on the ground when resting.
